Packing List: Weekend Escape to Miami.

The hubby and I were both going bonkers at home, so we booked a last minute trip to Miami for the weekend… My packing list… although most of my stuff is from last summer. So… ya know. I did my best to work it out for you all.
2. Norma Kamali One piece. I don’t actually wear one pieces, but I’m going to start. I think people actually need to be thinner to pull off a one piece.
3. Tom Ford Nude Lipstick- great for daytime and at night with big eyes. $48
4. Carven Coral leather jacket $2000 (I wish I had this, I don’t.)
5. Leather shorts, a staple. I bought a pair of loose, high waisted ones a few years ago. One of my favorite things that I own. $385
6. Denim shorts, another staple $168
7. Leopard boyfriends, cuter than the jeans. $178
8. Leather and Jelly sandals, had them since last summer in black and brown: LOVE them. Trust me, these are a winner. $275
9. White jeans- So FLA, they feel so much cooler in NYC. $187
10. Marni Clutch$1750
11. POP phone, everyone has these on the beach. $30
12. Elizabeth & James- Cute colorful sandal, $199
13. Double Brass cuffs $25
14.Givenchy Heels, loving em! My favorite shoes of the season. $880
15. Wayfarers, always a winner. $214
16. Array of friendship bracelets $17
17. Floral Topsiders- So cute. $124
18. Mesh Brass Bracelet… looks like way more than $44
All this said: A. I packed way too much stuff, and B. As a New Yorker, I have SUCH a different sense of style than the folks down here… Miami has a huge South American Flavor to it… people are glitzier, and way less self conscious of showing skin… Everyone wears full on backless cocktail dresses to dinner, people are topless at the beach…its just different.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Casual Glamour.

I’ve been thinking a lot about fashion trends and different things I see happening.
First thing: Last year’s just ripening trends have been harvested and are now left rotting out on the kitchen counter. What we had just a taste of, a dose of, last year, has been planted in abundance and overstocked at every store. Distressed, tie dye and bleached denim (I did this as a DIY last year), Neon- I hit that pretty hard last year too. And even floral… I just can’t dive back in to Spring 2011 right now. Instead, I want to wear slouchy white suits like this girl above, and casual jeans… and things that are a solid color, and no NOT color blocking.
Just give me something simple and sophisticated and I’m down.
I believe in the idea of having a semi-uniform, Steve Job’s style, where you stick to one look that you know works for you. I have a theory that people choose a look that was popular when they felt they were at their prime in life. It’s not a conscious thing, but maybe people get stuck in a fashion moment right around the year in which they got married, came of age, matured? Who knows…I’m not committed to that moment in time exactly, just saying.
Related to this topic is this article that the NY Times published which basically ripped Zara a new one for being a blatantly “tribute” based company these days. The writer and her buddy played guess the “inspiration” at the new 5th ave store. And yes, I do agree that at the 5th avenue store its WAYYYYY more obvious. The way the clothes are displayed, it just jumps out at you. Read the article and let me know what you think. HERE.

Men with purses, specifically Birkins.

Did you know men are carrying Birkins? I’m either crazy oblivious to Birkins (Yes, that’s true. They are on my never-going-to-be-interested-in-that list along with Louis Vuitton luggage.) or oblivious to men’s style, but I totally didn’t even know this existed until I saw this dude up top out and about a few weeks ago…Then I did a little googley woogly and lo and behold its a big thing, this men with a $10,000 (minimum) handbag thing!
Another man bag, at Leather Japan 2012.
Apparently there are some men’s oversized travel bag versions circulating after hitting the runway some years back, but thats not what we are seeing on the street. We are seeing men carrying women’s purses.

Now, I don’t know many men that would A. Carry and handbag and B. Drop ten large on a purse, but oddly enough, I kind of like this…. in a way.

The look ranges from I’m carrying my wife’s bag while she goes potty, to überly feminine, to I’m Marc Jacobs and I wear skirts, but I’m still so sexy to straight women and I carry this thing like it’s my gym bag… to just looking like it belongs in a supremely well tailored campaign for menswear.

Then I realized, it’s a kind of masculine bag to begin with. Now isn’t it? It looks like a large briefcase. I think the key to making this look chic is to hold the handles in hand, like a duffle, NOT to put it on the arm like yo mamma. (See photo below for confirmation on that one.)

And while I always thought Bags:Women as Rims:Men, maybe I’m wrong?!?
I need to make “Bags:Women as Rims:Men” into a little cute looking poster so that you can pin that on Pinterest. Forget that, just did it! Here you go:

There, now I made it pinnable, so it can be known for all eternity that I coined that shit.
(Brad Goreski has a Chanel Briefcase… Kanye rocks that Birkin like none other, I wonder what’s in there? Gym clothes a lap top and some Beats?)
Sorry for the loop de loop, but what did we learn today: Men are carrying purses. Men are carrying $10K purses. Some men look good carrying said purses…. all this==== the power of a brand.
Roger Federer with a Birkin For Men’s Vogue.
He makes it all look so cool.

Ugly Pretty.

I was looking through my photos from fashion week today and found this one…. Originally I thought that was pretty much the ugliest fur I’d ever seen. Now I kinda like it in the context of this photo. Off the shoulder, gazing at the models, fashion mag rolled up in crocodile purse. I like that the dress on the magazine picks up the color in the fur. Is it ugly pretty or just ugly?
It’s an inappropriate photo for a 60 degree weekend in late March, but so what?!?
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Weekend Outfit Inspo

Some outfit inspo for this warm weekend… One little black dress, cheap and easy. Wear it uptown with wayfarers, a preppy scarf, rose gold cuff and some nude booties. Wear it downtown with fringed heels, a black and brass belt and some edgy accessories. Easy Peasy. Best lipstick ever seals the deal. And if you want to look like a blogger, definitely wear a topknot. Ive never met anyone who wasn’t a blogger wearing a topknot and bright lipstick during the day. Have you? I mean, I do it. But, duh, I’m a blogger. I swear to you, I can pick a blogger out of a lineup. Not kidding.
I know my uptown still looks kind of downtown and my downtown is still kind of uptown. But so what? I distinctly define my style as UES prepster meets hipster, meets granola Venice Beach dwelling hippie. Although neither one of these looks says just that. Rambling cause I had a fun night last night and didn’t think this post through. Oh well! Its so nice out, I’m sure no one is reading blogs today! Enjoy your weekend!
