Eh, I don’t agree.

I scored both these shoes on MAJOR MAJOR sale in the post holiday sale bonanza. Who cares if its winter and they are LAST SEASON? My rule for sale buying is get something either so basic it transcends seasons and time (In addition to scoring both of these, I also found Jil Sander trousers for around $100 bucks and a white button down from The Row for 75+++off) or something so fun and trendy that you just wouldn’t spend a serious amount of money on it, but for a good price you’d do it.

Another good idea is to buy things ahead of time for your kids in a size bigger for the next year, like winter coats and cashmere sweaters. You can also stockpile bathing suits at the end of summer…

Follow my rules of 1. Boring and Basic, or 2. Cheap & Cheerful and sale shopping will be very rewarding!

Enter: Reed Krakoff pony hair mules and Dries van Noten orange, blue, python, tortoise shell concoction. And I realize they are essentially the same shoe just different colors and textures.

I don’t know why I inexplicably dislike Reed Krakoff, the man, even though I like the things he makes… You can read my comprehensive  report (not really) on him and see photos of his house and art collection HERE.

As for the Dries, I really wish I had the ones with the orange lucite heel… and while these are really a fall shoe, I’m not cool enough to wear them how they were worn on the runway with black and white zebra striped socks (HERE), so I’ll just save them for warmer weather. Like here on my vacation.

Im only blogging because my husband is watching an NFL Award show! WTF is this? I’m like Miranda on her honeymoon when she just can turn off her brain. Ok, now I’m turning off. Going to read Kelly Cutrone’s book. I’ll report back.

The white jeans are by Rag & Bone and they are sort of waxy, which kind of makes them less see-through to things like cellulite. Ive actually never worn white jeans before this, now I’m hooked. The belt came with a pair of Zara trousers, the briefcase-y bag is Lanvin and the shirt is Madewell.

Do you ever hit upon outfit bliss and then wear the same thing on and off for days straight? Cause I do. And this is one of those.

I’m off on a little family vaca this week, but I have everything all planned out in advance. So don’t worry. Sketch42 will be up and running!

I’ll be back with more posting later, this was just a little tidbit to keep you happy until I think of something good to write about. Even I get stumped sometimes. Some ideas: I could post new paintings, thoughts on the NYIGF, new clothes I score on sale, ummmm, another sneak peek at Bachelor pad, thoughts on RHOBH recap (although my opinions are so strong on the matter I don’t know if you want to hear them!), my new obsession with Downton Abbey…Blogging is like having a little term paper due every morning at 6 am. You do the best work when you plan ahead (naturally) but there are some days when you are just scrambling at 1 am. I schedule my posts from the night before, I know some of you think I wake up at 6 am to blog. Not even close. The truth is I’m still up at 2 writing it for the next day!

Ok, your turn, give me some ideas people.

The brand was created by childhood girlfriends Emily Faulstich and Kimberly Gordon, all grown up, and inspired by sleepovers, fairies, dreams, vintage t-shirts… The LA based girls thought the world of fashion “has gotten really serious in the world of fashion, and it was time for a change!”

While I’m not really the fairies, diaries and sleepovers kinda girl, I do love these photos. They are so fun, and just so LA, in a good way. If I weren’t the NYC bitch that I am, I would totally be a California hippie chick, granola as all get out…

How fun? I would love to see more interior design shot in fun ways like this… like Selby-esque but with less crap everywhere… If it were up to me, every interior shot would have a person in it, and not just a prim decorator or homeowner  posing casually (no disrespect, I’ve been that person!) but cool photographs… with fashion and humor, edge and sex appeal. I get that the point of design magazines is to show us the space, but with all the close cropped vignette photos out there, one would think we could branch out a bit and maybe spice it up a bit.

Yesterday I snapped a few shots of my friend Claudy of C&C Closet Concierge hailing a cab… That suede raspberry PS1 is heavenly. Also love the scarf, which apparently she bought on the street… Note the fingerless gloves, a must have for iPhone users. Check out her daily style picks HERE. 

Life in NYC… Hailing a cab in a light drizzle, while the world whirs by…. A part of me wishes that cab wasn’t in the picture so it could have just been her with the buses and cars blurring past… OH well… Im still learning… bear with me!

Is there anything better than good looking Euros in well made clothing? I mean, I’ll take a hunk of Grade A American man any day of the week, but over in Europe they are still using pocket squares with abandon and without a trace of irony. They’ve got the art of the scruff down pat, the flip of the collar and lets not even get into the layering and print mixing.

Its good stuff…

I’m freaking over every single look in their look book. I mean, this isn’t news. Its CELINE. But still. The upcoming images are making by brain tingle with delight. For real. I could wear the next 10 outfits in rotation forever. Lets look:

If aliens came to Earth, or we evolved to the point where we would all were uniforms, or if I became an icon like Steve Jobs and needed to pick an outfit to wear everyday for the rest of my life…. I would pick this:

And thats it. In my imagination, I look this cool. And you know how, when I like a picture, I reuse it 10 different times in ten different ways… be prepared to see a lot of this one.

My ultimate TOP look of the entire night had to be Helen Mirren. She is the most elegant woman. We should all take a lesson from her in aging gracefully. Also Jane Fonda and Michelle michelle Pfeiffer. They looked beautiful while still moving their faces.

Helen Mirren glows in her dress, but Meryl Streep looks dowdy.

Salma hasn’t looked this hot since Fools Rush In. She doesn’t look sleazy, she looks cool and hot at the same time. Plus, correct handling of her boobs makes her look thin and trim, not fat. (Sometimes big boobs make you look fat, trust me, I know.) Mila Kuniz also looks cool and pretty at the same time. I would wear that in ten seconds flat. 

I didn’t see girl with the dragon tattoo, but I hear Rooney Mara plays a badass. In which case, I LOVE this Nina Ricci dress on her. Emma Stone looks awesome in Lanvin, and Heidi Klum has a rare red carpet success… although I don’t think its totally appropriate, she looks awesome. 

A simple dress with the right jewelry can be the winning combination! Especially if you are scared of color. Most people look great with a little color around their face. Just saying. 

Now on to the fashions that I wasn’t so in love with… but didn’t think was awful. The best of the worst? The worst of the best?

All of these looks are eh to me. Feel like Ive seen them a thousand times, and a thousand times on these actresses. While they all do look beautiful, I can’t deny it, the actual dress selection is just slightly boring and not my favorite. I want to love Kate Winslet’s Jenny (Packham) but something is throwing me off… Maybe the ripple up the front? I don’t know what. Jessica Alba was dressed by Brad Goreski in Gucci, and I just personally would have done something less sweet. Charlize Theron’s Dior side pouf dress feels very last year to me. I think Im over the nude trend too. It looks bad on MOST people! 

I like Zooey’s dress. Its Prada btw. I would like the top with a pencil skirt. A lot. I just don’t love it with the hair. And Michelle William’s (Jason Wu), you were so adorable in your speech, but I don’t love this dress for this occasion. It just feels dowdy.

Claire Danes has such a straight body and angular face, this dress J Mendel did nothing to soften her. If it were in a different color I would have loved it. Imagine that. Me not loving black and white. And Angelina looks like an evil snow queen from Narnia. This Versace dress just enhances her scariness and icy beauty. But not a good choice. 

How did you make it to the Globes miss Kyle?!? Lose the choker. Debra Messing, the dress has WAY too much fabric. Natalie Portman in Lanvin, too much fabric, and a bad neckline for her. The dress makes her look bobble head-y.

Its almost too easy to pick Tilda…Tilda, I don’t even care what you are wearing(I actually like it on her), because you dug up Andy Warhol and plunked his wig on your head! Julie Bowen, I want to love you, but this dress just ISNT you. It could have worked on you without the curls. 

And now, the worst:

Jessica Beil (rumored to have been dressed by Brad Goreski?!?) the dress had a third saggy boob when she presented. It was tragic. As for Kelly Osborne, NO WORDS to describe. The fact that she is on fashion police and Joan doesn’t rip her a new one every week for that gray hair is insane to me. 

I can’t stand Lea Michelle in general, but the Blue Steel sexy face is making me gag. The dress is Marchesa so its not a shock to me that I HATE it. 

And last, the ultimate worst: Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhullier. I love tie dye. But I HATE this dress. HATE. I don’t even care that her 2 year old picked it out. Not a good look for her.

I also really loved Emily Blunt, but I couldn’t find a pic of her… Who were your favorites? Least favorites?!?!?

So I’ve realized now that I know some people with some serious style. I snapped this photo of my friend the other day while she answered a phone call. Sure beats waiting for someone stylish to walk by! (Has everyone seen the documentary on Bill Cunningham? It’s seriously awesome.)

Black on black on black, done right. With texture. A curly haired coat and a python bag. Badass. It reminded me of this painting I made for someone a few weeks ago… Its still wet in this photo and I amped up the contrast, but it does dry with this texture.

This makes me want to wear head to toe black leather all day everyday.

So of course, I’ve been snapping away  and while I have taken pictures of my kids that will KNOCK your socks off, I don’t like to post them on the internet…well, cause its the internet.

I realized yesterday while wolfing down 2 slices of pizza at 3:30 (first thing I ate that day), that sometimes you don’t have to look too far for awesome photography worthy shots…
