A Country Home Worth Leaving the City for.

Do you know those houses that make you wish you lived in another time? Houses that you are sure have secret stairwells and passageways? Houses that make you feel like a child out of an old English novel that you read as a child? Well, this is one of those houses. I was invited there for dinner a few weeks ago, and I have pretty much not stopped talking about the house, the decor, the hosts and the evening since. I stalked the owners until they agreed to let me take pictures for the blog! The house is just a block from the beach in NJ. It has wide wraparound porches, canopy striped awnings … [Read more...]

Grandma’s Winter Abode.

My grandmother's house in NJ is one of my favorite places to be. Not to be out-shined by her house in Brooklyn where she resides for the winter. She decorated this house in the 70s and pretty much hasnt changed much... except for the kitchen and bathrooms... (Some of you met Grandma at Nate Day... ) Im going to start with my favorite room: Gracie wallpaper on two walls, Mirrored squares on the other two. Silver leaf ceiling. Grandma’s House – Part III

You asked for it, you got it. I took more pictures of the house, and I didn't do anything to it. No staging, no buying flowers, no tilting pillows. NOTHING.  This is the house in its everyday semi-chaotic state. A little stone walkway leading to the pool area. The entire living dining room viewed from the kitchen door... the chairs and table came with the house... So they are ancient.  The living room with a view to the den. The farmhouse table and bench also came with the house.  The stained glass windows are from a church and date to the 16th century. Collections of brass are … [Read more...]

More from Grandma’s House

Grams loves a good screen... She has about 5 of them in her house!  (She also has a framed piece of Gracie wallpaper that she has no place for anymore since she repainted the stairwell it hung in... I'm begging for it. It's silver! I need that for my LR Grandma!) She also loves a pink and green printed sofa.( In fact, she loves pink and green.)  That one is also 35 years old. It has been reupholstered, but  in the same fabric as the original. I love the wicker chairs and the burl wood table. Also that painting on the right was made by my aunt. I love this house (obviously) and I have been … [Read more...]
