Welcome back. Where have I been, you might be wondering? All’s well. Simply put, I had blogger burn out.
Anyway, I’m back for this year’s Spring One Room Challenge. You can click here to see the results of last years ORC. The ORC is a design project where a bunch of us bloggers take on one room and transform it in just 6 weeks. Last year I redecorated my sister’s bedroom. This time I’m doing a room in our own NJ house. The house is new to us. We moved in just before last summer, and I made do with mostly borrowed furniture. This year, I started to tweak little things around the house, but I didn’t undertake any of the larger construction projects that I really do need to do. IE replacing leaking windows, a full master bedroom/ bathroom gutting. Changing the concrete deck in the back, possibly an addition of more bedrooms? Instead I focused on little projects. I retiled a bathroom floor here and there, repainted ceilings and walls, but mostly stayed in the lane of the original finishes of the house. The woman who built it is a fantastic decorator and the house has so much mid century/granny charm, which is why we loved it in the first place.
The house is currently a mess. MESS. I need a new floor in one room, I just sanded and stained the floor in the other and I have chairs everywhere. This ORC is giving me anxiety because, what if I don’t finish and look terrible front of all you lovely people? What if the LR ends up with the stained white wall to wall carpet it started with? What if the rug I ordered doesn’t come? What if the custom cushions I need don’t come? Design usually takes longer than 6 weeks. BUT I absolutely MUST get this house livable for my family before June. MUST. I figured doing the ORC would get me to that point faster and better… I would work harder on making the house fantastic, and do a better job no doubt. So here are some photos of the house before starting any projects.
And now my inspo :
But wait, there are two rooms here? Yes, yes there are. Because as of right now, I still don’t know which room I am working on. One is going to be a traditional One Kings Lane style den, and the other a slick minimal room. They are connected via atrium, which is the single best thing about the house.
Congrats to the amazing team of bloggers working on this project as well as Linda from Calling it Home for organizing and House Beautiful our media sponsor. Next week I will show u what I have done so far, or you can sneak a peek on my instagram story! @sketchfortytwo
