DESIGN | An English Art Farm.

spectacular_modern_churches___business_insider_webloc_2311.webloc_north_700x_whiteOut in Somerset, England, gallerists Iwan and Manuela Wirth and Ursula Hauser, have transformed a collection of barns and farmland into a  world class art center, complete with a state of the art restaurant, exhibition spaces, in house artist residencies and a farmhouse.  The Durslade’s Farmhouse and the surrounding farm buildings that date back to as early as 1760. The building has been renovated by the architectural firms Laplace & Co. and benjamin + beauchamp.  The interiors, designed by Louis Laplace, combines original details with vintage furniture sourced from local shops and salvage yards. Some Hauser & Wirth’s artists in residence have added their work to the home including a specially commissioned painted mural for the four walls of the dining room by Guillermo Kuitca.

The farm also includes gardens, a learning space, and is free to the public. The farmhouse is available to rent. It reminds me of Blue Hill Stone Barn mixed with Storm King, in NYer terms.

I think the farmhouse has that quirky English artsy charm that we can only dream of back here in the states. It’s lovely.
