Right before I left Manhattan for the summer, I snuck in a little photo shoot with my friend designer Ilene Wetson and her client Katie. Katie is a single mom living in a three bedroom on the UES. Her home is warm and comfortable, and something that she and Ilene put together over late night phone sessions and emails. Ilene had been Katie’s designer years earlier, when Katie designed her home with her husband. A few years later, they bumped into each other in the nail salon – New York feels like a small town sometimes! – and they began hanging out and working together again! They mixed big box pieces of furniture with Katie’s art collection and her son’s toys and love for Star Wars. The home is warm and fun to be in! One of my favorite things about the apartment is how all of her sons interests and hobbies are integrated throughout the apartment, and yet the house doesn’t feel at all like a kiddie clutter hell. It feels like a home. I also love all of the art integrated through out. My favorite room is the family room, with that awesome piece of art by the bar!
