phone I’ve had my eye on The Dean, the latest project from Will Cooper and Ari Heckman of ASH NYC, ever since they told me about it last year. The Dean is a boutique hotel in Providence. When I was in college I dated a dude that went to Brown, and ten years ago, there was one restaurant in Providence that you took your parents to when they visited. Now it’s a little super cool town, and The Dean is one of the coolest. It’s got a beer hall, karaoke bar, cocktail den and coffee shop, and perfectly appointed rooms.  Ari and Will have the most impeccable taste. LIKE, ever. And The Dean is just another example of how freakin skillfully and tastefully they do things. Follow Will on instagram, its SO GOOD.  Last week was their opening party, and Patrick Cline and I drove up, attended the ribbon cutting and circus themed party – see my instagram for photos of me with a giant snake- and then spent the day shooting like crazy… We took hundreds of photos whilst annoying the entire staff, no doubt.

There are so many good ideas to take away here. Original flooring, black painted up the wall like a giant baseboard – take that one home kids- vintage everything, brass, black and brown, perfect creamy white walls, black wood slatted blinds with white tape. Vintage flea market style portraits in bedrooms and edgy black and white photos in bathrooms (some UPLO photography too!), industrial style lighting… its just all awesome. So awesome, that we just couldn’t edit down the photos. Hope you enjoy them!

  1. […] A couple of weeks ago, I made a quick trip to Providence, Rhode Island for just one night. I had the pleasure of staying at The Dean, a new boutique hotel that just opened on Fountain Street in a 1911 building that used to be a brothel. Talk about a turn-around: The vintage décor and college-inspired atmosphere make it feel so sleek and urban. In fact, the design team is Brooklyn-based, a connection that’s evident from the moment you walk in.When I was in college in Massachusetts, Providence was a short 20-minute drive from my school, offering a small dose of city culture whenever my friends and I needed to get away. I loved roaming Thayer Street, and spent many nights seeing a cappella at Brown University, located nearby. It was fun to return—even for an overnight—and see how the city continues to evolve. The Dean, with it’s karaoke lounge and German-inspired beer hall on-site, is such a cool new spot. I highly recommend popping by (even for a cup of Bolt Coffee) the next time you’re in town.PS: A lobby selfie.(Images via Yatzer and Sketch42) […]
