FOODIE FRIDAY: The Winter Side Car.

My husband and I like a good drink. I joke that he is my in house mixologist, and we talk about how if he were going to retire one day to do something else for fun (think my legends post yesterday), he would retire and open a drink and sandwich shop. Β Dude makes a MEAN sandwich… I think what makes him good at both things, is that he pays extra attention to detail. Where I Β will just toast bread and put it on a plate, he toasts it and tents it so it doesn’t get soggy….it’s the details that make these non-cook things really awesome, or not.

Anyway, we just joined Julibox, a cocktail of the month club, and I cant recommend it enough. SO so cool, fun and delish. The first drink was the Winter Side Car. The sidecar is a prohibition era drink, and its said to be the only good thing to come out of prohibition! We had these with dinner this week, and they were so so awesome. Not sweet or sour, perfect notes and tones… Everyone has their own ideas about how to make a sidecar but the basic ingredients are Cognac, orange liquor, and lemon juice. This one with hints of pear and almond is unique and warming.

Ingredients:

1 3/4 oz xante pear
1 3/4 cognac
3/4 oz disaronno
1 oz fresh lemon juice

Garnish:

Lemon Twist
Sugared Rim

Prep:

1. Rub the lemon around the rim of a chilled martini glass.
2. Run the rim of the glass in a small plate of sugar.
3. Combine all the liquids in a shaker with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds.
4. Strain into the sugar rimmed glass. Garnish with lemon twist.

So easy and good. Go join Julibox. It’s awesome.
