The art of choosing art.

It’s not a secret that the work of designer Jeffry Bilhuber is pretty awesome. His work is generally traditional, but he always mixes in some kind of modern fresh twist that keeps the space totally au courant. And many times, its the art. Now, art purists will condescend on art that isn’t hung at eye level on a white wall, art isn’t decoration, they say. As someone involved in both design and art, I totally disagree. The art of hanging art, is an art. And these unconventional, interesting ways of hanging, interesting unexpected pieces is part of what makes these rooms amazing. A big huge part. The top photo is probably my favorite “gallery wall” of all time. I generally dislike gallery walls, and feel like a few or one large piece of art works SO much better and is so much more impactful. But the amazing hanging of these prints makes it function as one gigantic piece, and it’s really special.

I love all the ways that Bilhuber arranges art. Im particularly fond of the stack of small pieces in different frames. I love the art hung on bookcases, and I just like the way he hangs them off center, low, combines propped art and hung art, chooses interesting pieces and frames, mixes glossy photography and drawings… I just like it all. Good job.
Anyway, some ideas for ya… and another thing I like about it, is that you can elevate anything by framing and hanging. It doesnt have to be an expensive piece to look good!
Have a great day guys, and yay – weekend is here!
