Pretty Palette

I was cleaning out some closets (while baby was napping) and I found all these scraps, randomly hanging out together.

You know how I feel about purple (it can be good, bad and very very ugly!) but I want to see this happen somewhere.

Here’s how I see it: Walls, chalky white. Now this is major: Couch, burgundy velvet. Yes. This is the key to the room, I think. Drapes, gray wool, as seen on left. Leather, I dont know- a chair maybe. KW Bengal Bazaar fabric, accent piece or pillow. Agate and tassel are representative of accessories. Black little rectangle on the bottom is black resin, and I see it as a huge, sculptural coffee table in the middle of the room to keep the room from being too frou frou.

    Hi Nicole,
This is such a beautiful color palette and its funny how it came together so easily for you!
Where do you suggest going for fabrics (besides M&J for trim of course)?
How do you know what to mix and match in terms of texture and pattern?
    So confused… xo – Lisa

    • Nicole Cohen says:

      Hey Lisa,

I have a few places that are go tos for fabrics for me. 1 is baranzelli on third ave & 56 in manhattan, its a silk surplus store and 2 is B&J fabrics in the garment district. I love the garment district for fabric because its IMMEDIATE, no waiting and ordering, and its often cheaper. I also have design favorite brands like Lee Jofa and Schumacher.

With texture- i try to make sure every room(well depending on the room) has some combination of these things: velvet, leather, wood, stone, and hide… I look to combine ethnic with glam, shiny with matte etc…

Maybe Ill write a whole post about it soon!

  15. Me and burgundy don’t normally get along but this board is heaven- the idea of a velvet couch in said colour, mixed with hits of lavender and pink is pure bliss- LOVE this board!!!
