Good Vintage, Bad Vintage: The Neon Edition.

Good Vintage, Bad Vintage: The Neon Edition.

Its no secret that I come from a long line of hoarders which has its benefits: between my mother and grandmother we have got about 50 years of fashion tucked away in various closets, cabinets and everywhere in between.

I’ve referenced dipping into my mother’s “80′s closet” before. I first discovered her collection of micro mini silver leather mini dresses, Julia Roberts in pretty woman scrunchy cut out dresses(the hooker scenes!), bra tops as shirts, boxy shoulder padded tops, zebra leggings and more (I mean the list could go on indefinitely!) when I was high school. My mom and I didnt really get along on shopping expeditions if you know what I mean, so I took to experimenting with the clothing we already had in the house.

Last night, my mom, sisters and I started digging through once again. This time… we zeroed in on a different look.

Neon sheath dresses:

My mom couldnt give us an exact date for these, but I feel like they might be late 80′s early 90′s? My sister is modeling them in these photos. They dont fit me right now, or you know I would be on those dresses like white on rice. Especially that green one. I love it. You cant tell but there is a cut out in the back. So adorable on her.

“Things ALWAYS COME BACK!” Mom said over and over… Of course, although the above dresses were awesome straight out of the 80′s closet, there were plenty that needed some, well, lets say, tweaking.

Like this one:

Apparently my mom wore that batwinged body stocking to an engagement party to rave reviews. My sisters and I realllly tried to figure out a way to get this dress to work…. we almost passed out laughing when she wrapped that scarfy part around her head. Ahh… all in a days work.

We all know, there is good vintage and bad vintage, but like my mom says, if you hold on to something you love long enough its bound to come back!

Tell me your tales of vintage!
