Someone’s gone a little cuckoo: Extreme Decor.

New York Magazine’s 2011 issue on extreme decor is out and it does not disappoint… its fun to look at whimsical and fanciful homes- even if they are nuts. And even more interesting, these are places that people actually LIVE, not just a show house room… Behold:

A woman who yarn bombed her entire apartment:

This could alternately be titled: “Hobbies gone wrong” or “I bet it smells bad in there”… I do kinda like yarn bombing though… I think those worded art pieces are kinda cool… AND you all should definitely go back and read them… go ahead scroll up and then come back down. Also, I wouldnt hate on on a yarnbomed chair in the right space, no I wouldnt hate on it at all. In fact, Im really ready to get away from pretty buttoned up decor, and I really want some fun interesting quirky pieces in my house… Imagine a yarn bombed sculptural type chair in all black, or all neon pink? I like it!

Next: This couple taped out their entire apartment, drizzled the bedroom and wallpapered the study with magazine rip outs.

Very Kelly Wearstler-esque dont you think?Β

I actually like the kitchen dining and the study.., the bedroom didnt excite me that much.

Think about how annoying it must be to live with masking tape everywhere, like on surfaces you use. Wouldnt that be something of a peel and stick disaster? (not nearly as inconvenient as having a yarn bombed sink and toilet though!)

Also included in this article, Amy Sedaris’s apartment, an antique collectors home and a very florally wallpapered house. Check them out HERE.

Lets be honest, you’d have to be slightly mentally off to do what some of these people are doing. Especially the yarn lady.

Totally. Look at the ex-boyfriend she yarn-bombed into oblivion and now uses as a pillow. She looks like a black widow spider in the middle of her web…

  2. Those are both pretty hideous. I’m a picker so that tape wouldn’t last very long around me…

  3. I don’t really like the yarn-bombed look but I do agree with you that just a chair could be cool. I love the taped kitchen and the magazine study. It looks like in the kitchen the tape is only on floors, walls, & ceiling so it probably wouldn’t be too hard to live with

  4. Truly insane and so interesting to look at.
