I’m really drawn to these sculptures by the artist Vasa Mihich. I saw what looked like a few of these grouped together at the amazing 1stDibs showroom the other night at the Blogfest closing party.

A little bit about Vasa:
“A senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles, Vasa is an innovative, internationally known sculptor whose creative work explores the three dimensional interactions of light and color. With an advanced understanding of optical complexities, Vasa has become, in the words of Henry Seldis, former art critic of The Los Angeles Times, “the most sensuous and sensational colorist of the southern California artists working in plastic.”

In the 1960s, Vasa developed techniques for working with cast laminated acrylic forms, based on simple Euclidean shapes. These prisms of luminous construction are created by composing colored planes within these geometric forms. Each is signed and dated by the artist. Due to the nature of this process, colors are unique to each piece and may vary from the photo.”

Though you can buy vintage Vasa pieces via 1stDibs, multiples are available through The Lollipop Shoppe and his website.

They are not un-affordable…. and I think I need one. Like I said earlier, I want to declutter my house by adding simpler and stronger pieces instead of a collection of weaker ones. Thoughts? I think this means I will have to be avoiding the new Manhattan Home Goods opening tomorrow… it’s usually the place I buy things I eventually want to throw out.

i can use one of those too!
great find!!! they are gorgeous! I would love to own one!
I think I need one as well. Amazing.
Pretty snazzy, I say yes. They definitely make a statement.
Was looking for knobs and ran across these neon color knobs.

I love those. It’s always good to add to a collection. I would swap out when I was tired of seeing something. Maybe changing up your decor from season to season would help? Just a suggestion.
luv these! when i was growing up. my parents had several of these types of geometric neon shaped sculptures around my house. not sure if they were by the same artist. But they are definitely beautiful!
I have some listed on ebay if your interested..
Oh really!?! How do I find them?
On Ebay enter Vasa under Art should come up?
We have several Vasa pieces that were given to my father-in-law in the 1980′s. We also
have a book about the pieces. If any one has an interest contact me by e-mail.
