Nesting….

I spent the past 2 days ripping apart every closet in my apartment.

It started because I had to go through the den closet to make space for the baby’s clothes. If that closet fell off the side of the house I dont think I would have missed ONE THING that was inside it!

Wanna hear?

Mahoot Outfits from Elephant training camp in Thailand on my honeymoon, Non-HD DVD’s from when my husband was single(which he would never deign to watch again), Blue Ray DVD’s from when that was around, BOXES OF WIRES. BOXES OF RECEIPTS from 2006 when I got married, thank you notes I never sent out, about 10-20 Ikea Ribba Frames, broken wedding gifts that I always planned to “have fixed,” a pile of my nephew’s clothes from when he slept over 3 years ago, broken toys, extra wallpaper…

Well…. you guys get the idea. An entire closet filled completely with crap.

After that I went on a cleaning frenzy… Hit the front hall closet, the storage unit, Cookie’s room and last- my room.

I threw out(giving away) 4 or 5 coats from about 7 years ago, shoes from college, jeans that are 3 sizes too big and 3 sizes too small…. Buckets full of clothes from H&M that turned into crap within 3 washings…

You get the idea.

(I come from a long line of hoarders… the other day I was in my mom’s house and I was in her basement looking for some of my paintings from high school and college. I opened her big boiler room closet and the place looked like a time capsule from 1985. Do you know what the most handy, easily accessible thing was in the entire closet? A small pink boom box from the 80′s with a TAPE DECK that wouldn’t stay closed. When I suggested she throw it out or at least move it someplace else, she said – why the kids will use it! Its this mentality… thinking you might one day need everything, that  turns people into hoarders. My husband, on the other hand, says “When in doubt- throw it out!”)

Are you a saver or a tosser?

In other news, I think the baby could be coming soon. Like, real soon. Contractions, VERY STRONG ONES, were keeping me up all night.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I am a hoarder – big time. :) An example of that would be my detailed class notes/textbooks from university, moved coast to coast, and about 10 times, that I just threw away. Now that I have two young boys who we acquire toys/crafts/furniture CONSTANTLY for I am actually starting to work on my “tossing” skills!
You must be getting close with bebe! So exciting! The strong contractions are a good sign. With my second i had strong contractions for 2 weeks and was totally effaced/dialated. The good news? Once my water broke he arrived in 40 mins, two pushes. :)

  • toss. although i haven’t the heart to toss anything fiona has drawn, worn, read or slept with.
    im a mommy hoarder.
but the rest? i could care less.
here’s to hoping you have a safe and speedy delivery.

LOVE to toss…but defs a mommy hoarder. Oh well can’t be perfect. How exciting Nicole, fingers and toes are crossed. Can’t wait to hear your good news x

I’m a hoarder and then I get so fed up that I go on cleaning frenzies like the one you just described. Right now, we’re in a streamlined abode, which makes me quite happy.

AND, more importantly, good luck with the baby!

  • Nicole Cohen:

Im with you guys on the mommy hoarding. I cant throw out ANYTHING that belonged to cookie. Even old ugly cruddy paint covered pjs that dont fit. Still have those.

I finally started to collect some baby things to give away to charity…. but of course, I dont want to give away anything I actually LIKED in case I have another girl!

  • I am extremely impressed that you are tackling all this cleaning right now.

  • I’m a tosser – too much sometimes! Especially when I got close to my due dates with my kids, I was really into sorting, so it’s a good sign! Best wishes to you and the new little one when he/she arrives!

  • I’m the tosser, the hubby’s a saver. Every time he wants to save something, I just say “buried alive”.

  • Shirley Feldman:

This post takes me back to a certain day when we decided to throw out all of davids furniture and then seeing his face when he walked in….

    lol xoxo
