I had a particularly awful day of travel yesterday- 7 hours STUCK IN THE AIRPORT. I’m leaving you all to discuss this kitchen for a few hours while I get my life together, but I will be back with some thoughtful blogging later today…
So this kitchen: From Kelly Wearstler’s Malibu house. It makes me slightly uncomfortable. How bout you?

Ok, I love KWearst like a fat kid loves cake. AND I love marble…but this joint looks like a gigantic bathroom.
Are those penises (would that be “peni?”) hanging from the ceiling disguised as lighting fixtures? A giant bathroom, is right. It looks like that cheap 1960′s fauz marble bathroom surround material. And what is going on with the base cabinets?
It doesn’t really look usable. There is all that counter space, but it isn’t really in each of anything. It is almost as if someone said “I need a place to showcase this great marble slab I got a sweet deal on. Oh! The kitchen is perfect!” Yeah, it just feels wrong.
Whatever is hanging from the ceiling (peni! haha) is horrible… it feels a little bit like a tomb to me. In fact that whole house has tomb like qualities and a pyramid like color scheme.
I think if the walls werent marble too, the counters may have worked.
Yikes! The island itself is MAGICAL but it gets lost in the midst of all. that. stone. on the walls! Would look much better in a monochromatic (possibly all white) room. PS – Thanks for posting all of the info from Lavish. There was so much to take in this weekend its great to have all of your info right here in one place. Such great tips

Nicole,
I love KW, in fact I adore her…but in my opinion she tried too hard in this Malibu home. It is so far out there, and I think it was a knee jerk reaction from her overwhelming success from the early 2000′s. She needs to bring it down just a bit so we can relate to her again.
On another note…totally awesome to meet you and Erica yesterday! I LOVE meeting the bloggers behind the blog, and my husband is beside himself with all the new tips I came home with. He thinks the short-cuts may actually cut down my blogging hours…hmm, not sure that will happen, but hes hopeful (gotta love him for that, but he so doesn’t get the blogging thing!) haha
Sorry to hear about your travel woes. I too had to leave the event early because Nashville got hit with a blizzard yesterday. Snowed in this morning…perfect time to blog!

I completely agree!!!
And about the tricks… they will probably make you want to blog MORE! Ha! My husband gets SO ANGRY when he tries to talk to me and I wont look up from my computer… Its not easy to balance blogging with life, because its something I want to do ALL the time!
So nice to meet you yesterday! And I would LOVE a snow day right now! Have fun!
Cold and unwelcoming.
Don’t like, and I’m a marble lover. It’s so not Malibu to me, either. It throws me off. Way too uptight.
I really hate this. It is so 80s and outdated and gross. That whole house is ugly. Monochromatic beige is never my thing.
Sometimes I think KW is playing a trick on all of us. Like she goes in with a truckload of tacky crap, sprays it around the room and then times how long it takes for elle decor to come knocking. Some of her stuff is gorgeous, but some is just wack (whack?) Did you know she’s from Myrtle Beach, the redneck Riviera? So ironic.
that is a kitchen in disguise. like this: http://requiemofthought.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/800px-chameleon.jpg
Im dying. I am going to post that picture.
I hate this more than you can imagine. I am pretty sure those peni hanging form the ceiling are horrid lights to light up that horrid booth that looks like it belongs in a bad diner rather than glam designer KWs crib. UGH.
