People under 20…

..just dont interest me. AT ALL. I’m not talking about people I know, I’m talking about teeny bopper celebrities. I have no problem with the fact that they exist – 13 year olds need someone to look up too, after all. What bothers me is when they are discussed as if they are important by newscasters, bloggers and the media in general.

Here is a list of people that don’t interest me at all:

1. Miley Cyrus.

2. The Jonas Brothers.

3. Justin Beiber.

4. Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron

5.  Anyone on the Disney Chanel or Noggin.

6. Teen Bloggers.

That means that when I read a gossip rag, I skip their pages. It almost feels pedophile-like for me to read about them. The voyeuristic appeal of reading gossip about celebrities feels shameful and creepy when the celebrities are teenagers.

I’m not saying that these people aren’t talented or anything, just that adult interest in their personal lives is strange and unsettling.

Why am I even bringing this up? Because certain teen bloggers are being written about by legitimate news sources as if what they do or say matters.  Now, I dont hate these bloggers, I just dont get why anyone else even cares about them, aside from other teenagers that is.  And I dont think the content of their blogs is so transcendent that anyone of any age can enjoy it. I find the whole fascination with them kind of embarrassing.

Even someone like Dakota Fanning, who I enjoy watching in a movie, does nothing for me on the pages of Us Weekly.

(To be fair, I used to feel this way about Facebook and Twitter. But I kinda got used to them by now…)

Thoughts?

  • Don’t forget Taylor “sourface” Momsen. I do agree with you generally, but i also think Tavi is a notable blogger (no matter what her age is) and she happens to be (barely) a teenager.

    • Nicole Cohen:

Im on the fence on Tavi. I think she has talent and writes a good blog, but something about the whole thing still feels wrong.

  • You’re more open minded than I am by setting the age at 20!

I think some of the kid bloggers are vehicles being used by others. I have nothing to back that up, but it’s a feeling I have.

  • I agree with Chedva…Tavi’s blog is way the fuck more important than mine.

As for everyone else on your list…yeah, I don’t care about em either.

    • Nicole Cohen:

On one hand, I wouldnt put a 13 year old in the front row of my fashion show. On the other hand…the fashion world is filled with such complete and utter bullshit… if low level celebs are in the front row, maybe a 13 year old with an opinion deserves to be there?
