It’s a fast day….Kitchen porn for the hungry.
Some Jews are fasting today… (Mourning the loss of the 2 temples.) But my head is all wrapped up in kitchens, since I was helping the MIL with hers all day…
First, I am loving brass hardware in a kitchen. LOVING.
Remember when I posted this? Still smitten…
I just learned from Raina that Waterworks has a new collection worth checking out.
Second, I also just saw House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year designed by Jeff Lewis. And sadly, Its awful. It looks like Jeff disassembled some West Elm crap, and slapped it together on the wall. Very cold and as everyone pointed out, dated.
How, OH HOW much better is this Kitchen renovation featured on The Brooklyn Limestone last week? Its the home of blogger Ann of DIY with ADD. She turned this:
Into this:

I dont know exactly what a timeless kitchen is, but this cant be far from it.

Love kitchen posts…timeless is best- simple and not too trendy…
Good luck with the MIL!
Cindy
ok so first i scrolled down to see the juicy brass goodness that is the waterworks hardware.
…then I got down to the last DIY/ADD kitchen redo and almost fell out of my bed.
No such thing as a timeless kitchen. There will come a time when everyone will tear out their granite countertops and stainless steel commercial grade appliances because it looks SO dated and “buyers” want something else. Kitchen styles are cyclical. Not as fickle as clothing fashions, but every decade has it’s look.
Love Ann’s kitchen. It does come closer to a timeless look than anything I’ve seen in a long while. Still, I wonder about those shaker cabinets, farmhouse sink, open shelves, black counters, and stainless steel stove. Will we still love those features 10-15 years from now?
Yea… I think is pretty much impossible to create a kitchen that wont date itself. Living rooms and bedrooms can be timeless, but kitchens have too much equipment to be timeless. Its like when people build in speaker systems into their entire house and try to make everything so technologically advanced.,, within 5 years the system is obsolete.
I once looked at an apartment that had these space shuttle like light switches next to the bed… left over from the 60s. Horrible.
How did I miss the DIY/ADD goodness? And i love the kitchens! Even the first two that are sooo not my taste in kitchens, which goes to prove timeless is always appreciated. Jeff Lewis’ kitchen for HB, however…
the top one looks like a place for making sweet things…i like how they put tile under the stove. smart, practical and good looking.
the rest of the kitchens seem too big. i think i might be the only person in blogcity who prefers smallish kitchens.
and the modern-ish one is great except for the courtland 70′s porn rape basement paneling.
weird- I’m loving the brass accents on the ranges and lighting fixtures, but NOT as cabinet hardware. I don’t really know why. Maybe its just against that white island…
