I interviewed a plastic surgeon!

And I had him answer all my burning questions.

No, Im not getting anything done (right now). A friend of mine recently had some work done, so I went with her to the appointment. Little did she know I would take over the appointment, befriend the doctor, and ask him all the plastic surgery questions I have been dying to know the answers to. This doctor is a top plastic surgeon in NYC, but since he didnt know he was being “interviewed” I wont include his name. If you really want to know, email me.

First up,

1. Does liposuction work?

YES! Basically, after you are 16 or 17 years old, you can’t gain any new fat cells. When you gain weight, the fat cells you have each grow in size. What lipo is really good for is sucking out the fat from disproportionately fat areas on normal sized people. Basically, if genetics gave you a JLo booty and you don’t want one, you can get rid of the booty by surgery. If you gain weight, it will be more proportionately spread out.

2. Does breastfeeding make your boobs saggy?

The act of having milk sucked out of your boobs does not make them saggy. The fact that your breasts are engorged for long periods of time, does. The longer your breasts are full of milk and a cup size or two bigger, the saggier they will be. His advice: breastfeed.

3. Does running make your face saggy?

No. Losing weight makes your face appear saggy. This doctor is an avid gym rat, and believes that running is the best possible way to lose weight. (I agree.)

4. What do you think of lap-band surgery?

First, he showed me a book that he published. It was a book on the skin removal surgeries that he has done on people after they have had gastric bypass. I almost puked.

Then he said, that now that the surgery is an option for people who have less than 100 pounds to lose, it has become the designer surgery for people who want to be thinner. He called this practice DANGEROUS and he claims that he knows a team of  therapists, nutritionists and trainers are a much better idea for people who need to lose weight but are not really candidates for gastric bypass.

5. Do you ever turn people away?

Last week, he had a woman and her husband drive two hours from upstate to consult with him on a breast lift operation. He told the woman that he didn’t want to do the surgery on her, because the scars would be worse than the sagging.

6. Can people get in shape without surgery? Meaning: Are these people just lazy?

Most of his clients are women who have finished having their children and just want to look a little bit better. They are mostly correcting the ravages of pregnancy with tummy tucks, lipo and breast lifts. So, No. They are not just lazy.

7. What is the hardest surgery to do?

Nose Jobs are the most complicated and the most popular. His BIG ADVICE: If you have a “deviated septum” and are using it as an excuse to have a nose job, DO NOT let the same surgeon correct both problems. The ideal is to have one doctor correct the external parts of the nose, the plastic surgeon, and one doctor correct the structural problems, an Ear Nose and Throat specialist.

The surgery that you hear about with the most complications is lipo because in the US  ANY doctor can do it! You need to make sure these people are board certified before you let your dermatologist come at you with a knife and a rubber hose!!!

8. I regret to inform you all that I did NOT ask his opinion on Hiedi’s catastrophe of a face. I really think I should call him and ask him what he thinks about that.

If you have any more BURNING questions for him, let me know!

Oh, also, people with darker, oily skin age better. Sucks for me.
