Marble in the Kitchen! Nuts?
Last year when I was doing my kitchen, I decided to use honed Calcutta Gold Marble as my counter tops. Never has any decorating decision I ever made caused more controversy. I literally had family members and friends BEGGING me not to go through with it, to use granite like a normal person and to come to my senses. They claimed the marble would look like shit after just days of use, especially since I am not the neatest cook.
WELL, I did it anyway. And it looks FN great! Thank god I didnt put some hideous granite in my gorgeous kitchen. Literally every time I walk in there I smile.
Now, about the delicate nature of the counter. I am vigilant in wiping spills quickly. I use sealer. I had a cutting board made out of the extra marble and I placed it near the stove top so that I can put all my greasy things down on it. I use a Boos cutting board for chopping near the sink. We use place mats at the counter when we eat. Its been a year and so far the marble is in near PERFECT condition. And I really do believe that marble has character that develops over time with the wear. It looks worn and loved after time (a long time evidently). I adore the look and the feel of my marble counters… If you are on the fence, I would say go for it!

I can attest to that, it does look FN great!!! And YES you do take great care of it, borderline OCD (just kidding). I wouldn’t dare spill anything! I love it and it looks great in the pictures, even better in person! One day when I have my own apartment G-d willing, you’ll help me pick out my own marble counter tops
XOXO
Your dear little sister
the one with the blue backsplash is amazing, i love how mar is getting into it.
awesome!!! so pretty and shiny!!! do you ever lie naked on those counters? i would. on a hot day of course.
oh, and in my humble opinion most granite looks like a dog threw up oatmeal. you made the right choice.
No naked laying on table, but I do caress it lovingly, A Lot. Granite looks exactly like barf to me too! Gross!
You know I am a fan! I am always trying to explain to my clients that the marble will age beautifully and if it really bothers them they can get it restored. Sadly, not everyone listens.

I’m so happy to read about your beautiful countertops! I love white marble but had heard so many negative comments about it that I was beginning to reconsider. Now I’m back on it! Thanks!!
I love you for this comment, and all your info! Your kitchen is goddamn gorgeous!!!!! I too am ok with wear, it’s character. Just like the wood floors we put in, they’re scratched, and so what. Life happens in my house. So thanks. Adore you. ( We had the same high chair and we bought that light fixture for the basement reno ) Have we met

I cant believe we never met in blogland before! I found you on MFAMB’s sidebar!
