A few months ago, I moved into a new apartment with NOTHING. My previous apartment, which I meticulously decorated, was being sold furnished. SO, I had the daunting, but thrilling, challenge of starting from scratch. YAY! at first, but hell after a few weeks of eating on a card table and living through construction.
I was on the hunt for a navy blue velvet couch. I needed it for my den/library and I needed it fast. There was no such product on the market, ready to buy and delivered in a week. I went to my local Ethan Allen one day not expecting to find much. The only sofa I liked in their whole store was the Avanti. I customized it with navy velvet and a white wood base. It came in 5 weeks! I was thrilled.

Excuse the lack of styling, I just ripped my sister off the couch to take this picture:

This morning I woke up to find this in my email:

It’s Jonathan Adler’s Butterfield Sofa, in Navy Velvet. $3,950.00. Finally someone is catching on to the luxury of a navy velvet. Yum. (Btw, my Ethan Allen cost half the price of the above.)
My favorite Jonathan Adler sofa (which I bought in Charcoal Velvet) is now being shown in “Hemp Artichoke”, but it would also be available in navy. The charcoal is also super chic.

Another similar option for a navy blue velvet sofa is the Room & Board Hutton 98″ Two-Cushion Sofa in Vance Indigo at $2,199.00. It looks a lot like Jonathan Adler’s Tempelton: 4 cushions over 2, and the third leg….

One of my inspiration pictures was this pic from the late and great Domino:

Do you know who made the navy, velvet sofa shown in the Domino photo?
I’m not sure, but I think it is vintage.
